Duties and Activities

At a general level, the Sussex Cadets curriculum of learning
will include:
Police
• Basic knowledge of the law which is relevant to cadets, cadet
activities and Neighbourhood Policing.
• Knowledge of different roles within Sussex Police.
• Knowledge of basic police procedures with a focus on
neighbourhood policing.
Personal Development
• Team building exercises.
• Communication skills.
• Leadership skills.
• Decision making skills.
• Encouragement to become peer educators, so cadets can take their
learning back to their schools and communities.
• First Aid.
The curriculum may also include the following
activities
• Service to the Community.
• Knowledge of other emergency services.
• Cadet duties at planned community events.
• Assisting in test purchasing subject to operational risk
assessments and the VCC Manual of Guidance.
• Duke of Edinburgh - this is a significant commitment for Leaders
and is not available to every unit, but some cadet activities will
qualify for the service aspect of Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
• Drill
Curriculum Attainment
A development programme is available to recognise achievement by cadets. It is incorporated into the curriculum which is recognised by Bronze, Silver and Gold awards on attainment of defined competencies
