Sussex Police Race Equality Scheme 2005/8
Sussex Police is committed to promoting equality, fairness and respect. Our focus
is to provide a service that recognises, understands and applies the experience
and needs of all communities to our decision making and service delivery. The
2005/8 Race Equality Scheme outlines how we will do this. A copy of the draft
of the scheme can be download
from here . If you have any feedback , questions or comments to make on the
scheme, please use the feedback form or email address shown at the top of this
page or contact the consultation co-ordinator at the address above. Alternatively,
the scheme itself has a detachable feedback form (page 48) which you can post
to us.
External Reference Group (Race)
Sussex Police has established an external reference group made up of representatives
of black and minority ethnic (BME) community groups such as Sompriti and the Voice
project as well as members drawn from our divisional and strategic independent
advisory groups (IAGs). The group will meet regularly (six weekly initially followed
by quarterly meetings once established) and has agreed a terms of reference to
test, challenge and inform Sussex Police’s Race Equality Scheme.
We are seeking to increase the membership of this important forum and would welcome
approaches from representatives of any community groups specialising in black
and minority ethnic community issues in Sussex. If you are interested, please
read the terms of reference of the group which can be downloaded
here. If you would then like to nominate yourself or your group for membership,
please complete and return the questionnaire
found here. For any other information on the group, please contact the consultation
co-ordinator at the address above.

Neighbourhood Reassurance Surveys
Sussex Police is about to initiate wide ranging and very localised surveying of
communities on a regular basis, to place communities at the heart of identifying
the issues that really affect their quality of life.
The surveys will allow to monitor how well you feel the local police are addressing
the issues that matter to you. The generic questionnaire that will be utilised
for this surveying can be downloaded
here. If you would like to talk to us about the possibility of conducting
a survey in your local area, please contact the Consultation Co-ordinator.
