The internet
The internet
You probably feel more confident about using the internet than most adults... but you still need to keep yourself safe.
Remember the basics of internet safety:
- Everyone you meet online is a stranger, even though they might seem like a friend
- Always use a nickname when logging on and never give out personal details
- Never arrange to meet someone you make friends with online
- Try to have online conversations in public chatrooms
- Emails and files from people you don't know could contain viruses and nasty messages or links
- If you are worried or upset about anything you see or receive online, tell an adult (someone you know well)
Social Media
Social media is a great way to keep in touch with friends. You can now connect with your local Neighbourhood School Officer to ask advice and keep up to date with things in your school and your area.
Officers with Facebook accounts:
The list above is officers who are on Facebook at the moment. If anybody else adds you claiming to be a Police Officer then check the list below. If they're not on this list, then do not accept their request and let an adult know
The ThinkUKnow website offers more advice on how to stay safe while using the internet - and you can choose the information to suit your age group:
