Begging and busking

Begging is defined in Section 3 of the Vagrancy Act 1824. It is an offence to beg in a public place and the beggar can be arrested for committing this offence.

Busking in itself is not illegal, although it may be an offence under certain local byelaws or orders. In extreme cases the matter may be regarded as a form of noise pollution and therefore a matter for the Environmental Health Department.

Children under 14 years may not busk.
