Fishing

Fishing is a sport enjoyed by thousands of people across Sussex, but there are a number of byelaws that have to be observed in order to protect fish stocks and the environment.  Regular patrols of the river banks and inland water are made by Environment Agency fisheries officers and offenders can be taken to court.

Anyone aged twelve years or over wishing to fish in Sussex must have a valid rod licence ready to present to an Environment Agency officer when asked. Fishing without a valid rod licence can lead to a fine of up to £2,500.

Rod licences are easy to obtain - they can be bought at the Post Office, over the telephone on 0844 800 5386, or online at the Environment Agency's website.
