If you don't want to tell the police...
What else can you do?
You can access civil justice through a county court. You can do this whether or not you report the domestic abuse to Sussex Police. You could get:
- a divorce or a judicial separation
- an injunction. An injunction is a 'civil law order' which places legal limits on someone to try to stop or reduce any more abuse. There are different sorts of injunction.
- a non-molestation order can stop someone from being violent, threatening, intimidating, harassing, pestering or speaking to you
- an occupation order can stop someone living in, visiting, or going back to your home
- an exclusion order can stop someone living in, visiting, or going back to your home if your child is in danger
- a civil harassment injunction can stop someone from harrassing you
- a prohibited steps order can stop someone taking your child away from you

You may be able to get help with your legal costs through the Legal Help scheme. Legal aid is means tested, but the rules are more relaxed in domestic abuse cases because of how dangerous the abuse can be.
An Independent Domestic Abuse Advisor (IDVA) or a solicitor can help you get civil justice.
The National Centre for Domestic Violence offers free legal support to any survivor of domestic violence by helping individuals get emergency injunctions, usually within 24 hours. Call 0844 8044 999.
