Malicious calls
There are various offences relating to improper use of telephone or electronic systems or postal systems e.g.
- sending false information
- sending indecent or offensive messages
- sending improper threats
- persistently misusing a public network.
Means of communication include telephone, computers, fax, cable TV, Blackberry, emails, text messages and paper messages.
The relevant legislation is the Communications Act 2003, Malicious Communications Act 1988 and the Telecommunications Act 1984.
BT offers a service via their Malicious Calls Bureau 0800 661 441 (24 hrs, 7 days a week) and the BT website provides information on how to stop or prevent malicious calls.
