Two arrested for racist abuse on Brighton bus

23 August 2010

A 70-year-old man and 67-year-old woman from Brighton have been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress,  following a police appeal in the media.

Police released CCTV images in the hope of identifying a man and woman wanted for racially abusing a Brighton woman of European appearance as she traveled with her 5 and 7-year-old children on the 81 bus on Monday 14 June.

PC Tash Swan said: "I received endless responses following the appeal in the media and I would like to thank everyone who contacted me. I hope the support from the local community is of some comfort to the victim, who was left highly distressed by the experience, particularly as she was with her young children at the time."

The man and woman were arrested in Brighton on Friday 20 August and released on bail until September 23.
