Partnership project launches in Bognor

09 May 2011

An initiative is starting up in Arun to bring together faith-based organisations, Sussex Police and other local agencies to help reduce crime and disorder and improve community cohesion.

National Christian charity Redeeming Our Communities (ROC) started in 2004 and has helped set up partnerships across the UK with the aim of addressing social problems. The goal of each project is different depending on the area but could be to reduce teenage pregnancy or drug fuelled crime or help the elderly if they are lonely.

There is an event to launch the Arun ROC initiative at the Open Gate Church in Bognor Regis on Thursday 12 May from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. During the evening, different types of music will be performed and people will share their stories about how they have worked with others to make a difference.
The event is to get people thinking about volunteering to be part of the project and to start discussing what projects could be set up.

ROC is open to everyone and there will be a similar event in Littlehampton later on this year.

Debra Green, the director and founder of ROC said: "We are delighted to hear about the forthcoming launch of ROC Bognor. There is a real sense of anticipation as agencies work together for the good of the local community and we look forward to seeing the results as new community projects take shape. The team who are working to make ROC Bognor a reality have inspired us by their commitment and passion."

Sergeant Christine Holyoake, who is helping organise the event said: "I honestly believe that agencies such as the police, social services and education have to find a lasting solution to our social problems and that the only way to bring about real and lasting change is for us to work in partnership.
"If you are interested in volunteering even a few hours to help out in your local community and contribute towards making a real difference, I would urge you to come along to this event and find out what it is all about."
