Thousands in cigarettes stolen after ram-raid at Iden Post Office
02 February 2012
A car has been ram-raided into the Post Office in Iden, Rye,
and around £5,000 of cigarettes stolen at around 3.45am on Saturday
28 January.
A car reversed into the front of the Post Office village
shop, smashing the metal shutters across the front door and
windows.
Detective Constable Tina Day said: "The owners were asleep
upstairs and were woken by the noise of the car crashing into the
shop. This has been understandably very frightening for them and we
are offering them our support.
"A full investigation to find those responsible is underway.
The car used in the burglary would have suffered significant
damage. Anyone who may know where this car is now, or with any
other information, is urged to call police immediately."
A red sporty looking car, possibly a Renault Megane, was seen
driving off from the scene in the direction of Wittersham.
Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 101
or anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555
111.
