Attempted robbery in Hove appeal for help

03 February 2012

Detectives investigating an attempted robbery at a newsagent in Hove are appealing for the public's help to identify the offender.

Officers were called to The Associates newsagent in Western Road, Hove, at around 5pm on Wednesday following a report of an attempted robbery.

A man is reported to have entered the shop, threatened the owner with a weapon and demanded money. The victim refused to hand over money and the offender fled.

Detective Sergeant Nicholas Chambers, of Brighton and Hove CID, said: "It is thought that the offender left the shop and walked east along Western Road and then turned into Brunswick Place. It may be that the offender has gone into a property in Brunswick Place and I would ask anyone who saw a man fitting the description walking along Brunswick Place or going into a property to contact police."

Police would also like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the attempted robbery or seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area shortly before.

The man is described as white, aged around 28-30-years-old, about 5'8'', thin build and was dressed in adark coloured coat, blue jeans, dark coloured gloves, dark coloured beanie hat with a blue scarf wrapped around his face.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 1086 of 1/2 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
