Police investigating an armed robbery at East Grinstead Watch
Company this morning (Friday) are appealing for witnesses to
contact them.
At around 11.45am police attended the shop in Middle Row following
a report of a robbery.
During the robbery two motorbikes or mopeds, which were each
carrying two offenders, stopped outside the premises. The pillion
passengers on both bikes then approached the shop front and smashed
the front door open using weapons.
These two men then entered the shop and demanded jewellery and
cash. This was handed over and they left the shop, getting back on
the bikes and left the area heading towards Hermitage Lane, East
Grinstead.
A short while later a member of the public reported finding two
abandoned mopeds in Harwoods Lane, East Grinstead.
Detective Sergeant Dave Morton of West Sussex CID said: "It is not
known how the offenders left the area after abandoning the bikes.
We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the men dumping the
bikes or anyone who saw the robbery take place or two mopeds
driving away from the scene with two people on each."
No-one was injured during the incident.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact
Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 550 of 3/2 or the independent
charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
