Special Constables

Becoming a Special is a big commitment, but is ultimately very rewarding.

Sussex Police endeavours to support those who choose to become Special Constables in what can be an interesting and challenging way of giving some time to your local community.

We are currently accepting applications to become a Special Constable. Please read the information in the sections below and if you then think you have got what it takes to be a Special Constable we'd like to hear from you!

Call our recruitment team on 01273 404721 to complete an initial eligibility questionnaire before receiving an application form. Successful applicants can expect to be placed on training courses during 2010.

What it takes
The person you need to be is no different to a regular police officer, but you will need to take into consideration other factors. Read about them here to see if you fit the bill.

What to expect
Do you know what it’s really like being a Special? There’s more to it than you think – take a look around and see if it’s something you could do.

Fitting it in
You may think you have no time, but everyone can spare a few hours each week. It is however, important to balance your time effectively and know what our expectations are.

Training
Training is of the utmost importance, which is why you will need to attend on weekends to gain the skills that will be important when you finally become a special out in the community.
