Becoming a
Police Community Support Officer

Police Community Support Officers have an important role to play in
their local community.
As part of an established neighbourhood team, you will help provide
visible reassurance to the public and assist in reducing crime and
the fear of crime by high visibility patrolling.

Your role will include:
- Dealing with members of the public
- Tackling anti-social behaviour
- Building links with employers and businesses in the community
- Dealing with nuisance offences such as street drinking and begging
- Removal of vehicles
- Issuing of fixed penalty tickets.
It’s a role for people who enjoy the outdoor life - you will
spend most of your time conducting high visibility patrolling in
the local community.
Salary: Your starting salary will be £17,190. After you have successfully completed your six week training you will receive an increment as a shift allowance taking you to £20,664. Thereafter your salary will increase with an annual allowance to the current maximum of £22,611.
You will undertake a six week course at Headquarters.
For the following five weeks you will be back at your station with
your tutor until you have satisfied the competency criteria to qualify
you for independent patrol.
Your progress will be continuously monitored and you will attend
further training days.

- You will be aged between 18 and 63 years of age.
- You will have LIVED in the UK continuously
for the last three years prior to your application.
- You will have received NO cautions or convictions
for any criminal offences in your lifetime. Applicants must NOT have any bindovers or fixed-penalty notices.
