Man charged with murder of woman in Brighton

A man has been charged with the murder of a woman in Queen Square, Brighton, on Sunday 17 February.

Ty Medland, 25, of Cavell Avenue, Peacehaven, has been charged with the murder of his wife Samantha Medland, known as Sam, and is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 20 February.

At around 8.45pm on Sunday 17 February police were called to Queen Square following a report that a woman had received serious stab wounds.

Sam was found at the scene with serious injuries and was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later.

A post mortem has revealed that Sam died as a result of multiple stab wounds.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Preston of Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said: "I would like to thank the members of public who have assisted us in our investigation so far.

"Our thoughts are with the family of Sam as they try to come to terms with her death."

Anyone with information regarding this incident who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Westfield.
