DI cycles to London to Paris to raise money for AFRUCA

31 May 2013

Detective Inspector Jez Prior is taking on his latest charity challenge - cycling from London to Paris (that's 237 miles!) in three days in August.

The 46-year-old detective from Bognor, who works in the Child Protection Unit at Sussex House, got the cycling bug when he joined the 'cycle to work' scheme a few years ago.
Jez said: "Through working with Body Shop International on their Domestic Violence programme, I wanted to join colleagues from the Body Shop Foundation on this charity ride which is to raise funds for AFRUCA - Africans Unite Against Child Abuse - which is a charity confronting child abuse and trafficking of African children in the UK. AFRUCA's stance is that culture and religion should never be a reason to abuse children. This is an area close to my heart having worked in child protection on and off for over 15 years and now being one of the child trafficking leads for Sussex Police."

In preparation for his latest challenge Jez been clocking up to 150 miles a week for the last six weeks. He said: "It's a tough challenge - 70 miles on day one, 90 miles on day two and just under 70 miles on day three - but I suppose that is what will make it worthwhile!
