The City team are currently operating a warning then fine system. This is where a warning card and advice is given for the first offence of cycling on the footpath or cycling without lights. The second time someone is caught within a twelve month period a £30 fixed penalty notice will be issued or they will be summonsed to court.
Cycle cards have also been created, explaining the system and promoting cycle security.

In order to combat this, any alchol being consumed within the "Drinking Control Zone" will be confiscated from a person if it is believed that they will continue to cause ASB. Any person caught with alcohol, under the legal age will have their alcohol seized and their parents contacted.

Speeding - Local residents have raised concerns in regards to the speed at which traffic is travelling in and around the City centre.
Issue raised on 30 Apr 2012
Local officers will be using Speed Indication Devices (SID) and working with other agencies to tackle the problems of speeding.
SID was deployed in the area of Orchard Street recently. The highest recorded speed was 33mph over a 90minute period.
SID was deployed in the area of Terminus Road. A number of drivers were pulled over for various offences of speeding and driving without a seatbelt.
Further deployments will be carried out at various locations. Often the perception of speed is higher than the actual speed.

Crime Mapper
Go to Crime mapper site
Crime mapping is part of a national initiative to enable members of the public to be apprised of crime levels in their area. The Sussex Police system provides crime levels at three levels: Force-wide, Districts, Wards/beats
How to read crime mapping data
For some smaller areas, the crime rates may appear high. This is primarily due to the low resident population within these areas; crime rates are calculated by dividing the actual number of crimes by the resident population and then multiplying by 1,000. Crime levels are then calculated using standard deviation, a way of fairly measuring and comparing the spread of crime across the force from area to area.
