Neighbourhood News.
The residents out in the rural areas have been contacting us with good information with regard to suspicious vehicles & activity in their areas. Please keep the information coming in as this is helping us build up a picture of who we need to keep an eye out for when we are on patrol.
2 males were arrested following a burglary in Barcombe, goods were recovered & we are now looking into whether these males may be responsible for other crimes in the area.
The new village Hall site in Barcombe & the village hall in Newick which is having work carried out on it have both had building equipment taken, we will be carrying out extra patrols at key times to prevent further incidents.
Campers have been reported to us on a number of occasions on The Drove in Offham. We have visited on each occasion & when necessary moved people on or given words of advice.
Action taken on 13 Mar 2012
PANEL MINUTES FROM MARCH 12TH MEETING
Issue raised on 14 Mar 2012
Police Report: Between December & February there were 10 reported crimes. A mobile phone was stolen from the Fletching Common area on the 9/1 & fuel was taken from a parked vehicle in the community centre on the 23/1, there are no lines of enquires for either of these. The one reported incident in February is theft of heating oil from a property on the outskirts of the village, there are no lines of enquiry at present. Speed checks done on the 2/2 resulted in 2 drivers being sent with regard to their speed.
Neighbourhood Watch: 2 coordinators are still needed for Cornwall Bank & for Jackies Lane area. The cold caller Ron claiming to collect for the Chelsea pensioners is now collecting in Nutley for the British Legion, Wealden NPT are now investigating him.
Housing: The partner ownership scheme in Alexander Mead is struggling due potential owners finding it hard to get a mortgage. Hastoe housing is working with the families to resolve the issue. The properties for rental are now taken. There is money now available in the environmental budget to improve the look of LDC land, tenants will decide how the money is spent.
Council News: Cardboard has now been started to be collected & hopefully will have be rolled out throughout the district by the end of the year. Food waste collection is next on the cards & 9 new lorries will be needed for this. Weekly collections will remain. At present 23% of waste is recycled, the council hope to raise this to 43% by the end of the year. All waste is now either recycled or incinerated.
SJ Chair of Panel Chairs: At the last meeting of chairs Shirley complained to the new Chief Inspector at the lack of communication regarding updates of what’s happening on District. She was told this was due to a lack of communication & handover from the old management. The main priorities coming from other panels are speeding ASB parking & OTD’s.
Other Business: It was decided to leave the priorities as they were, they therefore remain
1. Anti social behaviour
2. parking
3. OTD
Action taken on 14 Mar 2012
Crime Mapper
Go to Crime mapper site
Crime mapping is part of a national initiative to enable members of the public to be apprised of crime levels in their area. The Sussex Police system provides crime levels at three levels: Force-wide, Districts, Wards/beats
How to read crime mapping data
For some smaller areas, the crime rates may appear high. This is primarily due to the low resident population within these areas; crime rates are calculated by dividing the actual number of crimes by the resident population and then multiplying by 1,000. Crime levels are then calculated using standard deviation, a way of fairly measuring and comparing the spread of crime across the force from area to area.
