Local priorities
Shopwatch, You said: With the successful introduction of the town's CCTV system the next logical stage to benefit Heathfield would be the implementation of a shop watch scheme. This would help communication between the stores and the local police in relation to matters involving incidents of theft, criminal damage and anti-social behaviour.
Issue raised on 19 Mar 2012
We did: A flyer has been hand delivered to all the shops detailing the proposals for the scheme and inviting all store owners / Managers to attend a meeting in December to discuss the idea further.
Update: The Shopwatch Scheme has been up and running for a couple of months, with communication with the local shops proving to be extremely successful, whether it be via email or text.

Anti-social behaviour. You said: Groups of teenagers are hanging around the town and particular shops causing a general nuisance.
Issue raised on 19 Mar 2012
We did: Known local trouble makers are being targeted and any offences committed have been investigated and dealt with accordingly. Small amounts of alcohol have been seized by the local PCSOs and pro-active patrols have been increased, including using Operation Blitz to target problem areas.
Action taken on 19 Apr 2012
Parking. You said: It has been noticed that there is an increase in the number of vehicles parking illegally around the town and the neighbouring roads. This includes Mutton Hall Hill and Station Approach.
Issue raised on 19 Mar 2012
The local team have increased their patrols and issued numerous parking tickets to offending vehicles. Words of advice have been passed to drivers and the local CCTV system has been used to record footage of offending vehicles. Local builders have been been given advice as to where to leave their vehicles whilst working on the local sites.

Crime Mapper
Go to Crime mapper site
Crime mapping is part of a national initiative to enable members of the public to be apprised of crime levels in their area. The Sussex Police system provides crime levels at three levels: Force-wide, Districts, Wards/beats
How to read crime mapping data
For some smaller areas, the crime rates may appear high. This is primarily due to the low resident population within these areas; crime rates are calculated by dividing the actual number of crimes by the resident population and then multiplying by 1,000. Crime levels are then calculated using standard deviation, a way of fairly measuring and comparing the spread of crime across the force from area to area.
