Brave postal worker foils attempted robbery

A postal worker bravely foiled an attempted robbery in East Grinstead.

The relief sub Post Office master, who says he has been the victim of such incidents on 13 previous occasions - once in East Grinstead, boldly told the two masked men to “go away” when confronted by them.

The incident occurred at Stone Quarry Post Office, in Hollands Way, about 4.22pm on Friday (30 November), and police have released CCTV images of the two suspects.

One suspect demanded money from the safe while the other stood by the door, however the employee refused and told the pair to leave, which they duly did empty handed.

The suspect who demanded the cash was about 5’6”, aged 35-40 and spoke with a local accent. He wore a white boiler suit and appeared to have a shotgun in a black holdall.

Both men wore masks and gloves.

Police are appealing for anyone with any information about the incident – or the two men pictured – to call 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 1031 of 30/11.

Alternatively, you can visit the Crimestoppers website or contact the independent charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
