Chichester Probus Club hosts police talk on scams ands fraud
Chichester Probus Club, a group of retired business and professional people which meets monthly, hosted a visit by police community support officers at the Chichester Park hotel on Thursday (12 October) to learn more about scam and fraud awareness.
PCSOs Jason Lemm and Will Winter, both members of the Chichester and Arun crime prevention team, talked to more than 50 club members about avoiding some of the most common con tricks, including bogus callers, scam mail and cybercrime, with the emphasis on prevention through awareness. Scams such as couyrier fraud and investment fraud were also discussed.
Jason said: "Over the past fortnight our team has delivered five such presentations to different audiences, ranging from local warden-assisted residents to dementia support groups, and spoken to more than 200 people, which is fantastic."
The presentations were part of an ongoing series of weekly talks from the team since the beginning of the year.
Anyone who has fallen victim to a scam or fraud, knows of anyone who has or who is concerned that fraudulent activity may be taking place, is urged to contact Sussex Police online
or by telephoning 101.
