A man has been jailed for burgling his local convenience store.
A member of staff opened One Stop in St Paul’s Road, Chichester, about 6.45am on Sunday 19 April to find the front glass door was smashed, and a quantity of alcohol and scratch cards were missing.
CCTV was viewed which showed a man using a metal pole to break in to the store around 1.25am that day. He was recognised as regular customer Jonathan Turner, 35, unemployed, of Duncan Road, Chichester.
Police attended the suspect’s address and found he was in possession of items matching those stolen from One Stop. Shoes and trousers matching those seen in the CCTV were also found at his home.
Turner was arrested and charged with burglary, and remanded in custody to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 20 April, where he was jailed for 12 weeks.
He was also ordered to pay £260.89 in compensation.
