A police detective has been convicted of fraud following a trial at Lewes Crown Court.
Karen Colbran, a detective constable based at Eastbourne, was found guilty of fraud in respect of dishonestly claiming a single occupancy discount on council tax when she was not the sole occupier of her property. This followed an investigation and prosecution by Wealden District Council.
She pleaded not guilty but was convicted by a jury on Friday (February 11) following a three-day trial. She will be sentenced on 25 March, 2022.
T/DCI Jon Robeson said: “Sussex Police expects the highest personal and professional standards of anyone who works for us. The force's Professional Standards Department will now consider misconduct proceedings following the result of the court case.”
