Police have arrested a man on suspicion of arson following a fire at a block of flats in Worthing this morning (26 August).
Officers supported West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service in Eirene Road from around 2am, following reports of a significant fire.
Occupants of the flats were evacuated, and work is ongoing alongside our partners to ensure those unable to return to their homes are provided with suitable temporary accommodation.
A 60-year-old man from Worthing has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody at this time.
Enquiries are ongoing, alongside the fire service, into the full circumstances. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police online or via 101, quoting serial 87 of 26/08.
