Gatwick is unique when compared to other communities across Sussex.

The Gatwick community consists of the airport operator Gatwick Airport Ltd (GAL) and all the other businesses that operate at the airport, including airlines, retailers, handling agents and hotels, not to mention the diverse and frequent changing volume of passengers.

Gatwick operates the world’s most efficient single runway and is the second busiest airport in the UK, flying to more destinations than any other UK airport. It is the ninth busiest airport in Europe and directly generates £1.6 billion for the UK economy.

We have a very large transient community as 46.1 million passengers travel through the airport every year, flying to and from around 230 destinations in over 70 countries and the long-haul network has extended to over 60 routes attracting a greater diverse community.

We have a significant transport network at Gatwick. Not only do we have the airport itself but we also have a busy railway station located on the London to Brighton line and the M23 running through our area.

We work very closely with the airport operator and other enforcement agencies (UK Border Force and British Transport Police) to help keep all the passengers and staff at Gatwick safe and secure from all types of crime, including terrorism.
