Operation Configured

Operation Configured is a programme run by the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit's (SEROCU’s) Cyber Protect Team.

The team identifies organisations who are at risk of cyber crime and contacts them to let them know.

How it works

Operation Configured follows these steps:

1. The Police Cyber Protect Team identifies organisations at risk of possible cyber-attacks by using online research.
2. Officers from the team will contact each identified organisation.
3. Officers won't ask for any information or details from organisations themselves. The team will only contact organisations to give information to them.

Operation Configured is ongoing and will run for the foreseeable future. 

What to do if you're contacted by the Cyber Protect Team

You should always treat any unexpected contact claiming to be from the police with caution.

This is what happens when the team contact you:

• Officers and staff from the Operation Configured team won't ask for any personal or technical information when they contact you.
• The team won't send you any documents in their emails or ask you to visit any website other than the Operation Configured website.
• The only time someone from the police will ask for technical or personal details relating to cybercrime is during a criminal investigation into a cybercrime reported via Action Fraud. In these cases, investigating officers will explain how to check their identity.
• You can find out how to check the contact you have received is genuine on the Operation Configured Website.
