If you’re drinking, we’d advise you to ditch the keys – not your car!

Alouis Marimirofa found himself in a ‘hole’ lot of trouble after he crashed his vehicle on his way to work. He was more than three times the legal limit.

He is among the latest 15 people to be convicted in court following our Christmas crackdown on drink and drug-driving.

A total of 279 people were arrested during the operation, which ran from 1 December to 1 January.

Of these, so far 47 have been convicted. These are the latest individuals to have lost their licence:

• Gary Cooper, 32, a removals operative, of Bradshaw Road, Chichester, was arrested in Connolly Way, Chichester, on 10 December, and charged with failing to provide a specimen of breath or blood for analysis. At Worthing Magistrates’ Court on 3 February, he was sentenced to four weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months. He was also disqualified from driving for eight months and ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
  
  
• Robert Delacourt, 81, retired, of Harpers Road, Newhaven, was arrested on the A259 at Newhaven on 13 December, and charged with driving with 61 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml breath. At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 29 January, he was disqualified from driving for 16 months. He was also fined £200, and ordered to pay £85 costs a £80 victim surcharge.
  
  
• Gideon Mungai, 24, a care assistant, of Freshbrook Road, Lancing, was arrested on the A27 at Lancing on 16 December and charged with being in charge of a vehicle with 63 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml breath. At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 29 January, he was disqualified from driving for 28 days. He was also fined £207, and ordered to pay £85 costs a £166 victim surcharge.
  
  
• Mubashar Khan, 38, a care assistant, of Pevensey Road, Eastbourne, was arrested on the A27 at Falmer on 21 December and charged with driving with 81 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml breath. At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 30 January, he was disqualified from driving for 20 months. He was also fined £415, and ordered to pay £85 costs a £166 victim surcharge.
  
  
• Christopher Taylor, 27, unemployed, of Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, was arrested in Goldstone Crescent, Hove, on 23 December, and charged with driving with 45 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml breath and driving with no insurance. At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 30 January, he was disqualified from driving for 12 months. He was also fined £69, and ordered to pay £85 costs a £28 victim surcharge.
  
  
• Karen Pfeffer, 44, a factory worker, of Crocus Chase, Worthing, was arrested in Poulters Lane, Worthing, on 23 December and charged with driving with 46 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml breath. At Worthing Magistrates’ Court on 27 January, she was disqualified from driving for 16 months. She was also fined £350, and ordered to pay £85 costs, £450 compensation a £140 victim surcharge.
  
  
• Archey Olley, 19, unemployed, of Rock Lane, Hastings, was arrested in Mann Street, Hastings, on 24 December and charged with driving with 73 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml breath. At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 5 February, he was disqualified from driving for 17 months. He was also fined £120, and ordered to pay £85 costs a £45 victim surcharge.
  
  
• George Hemming, 20, a chef, of Adversane Road, Worthing, was arrested in The Boulevard, Worthing, on 24 December and charged with driving with 54 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml breath. At Worthing Magistrates’ Court on 27 January, he was disqualified from driving for 14 months. He was also fined £276, and ordered to pay £85 costs a £110 victim surcharge.
  
  
• Graham Acourt, 65, a HGV driver, of Sunflower Lane, Polegate, was arrested in Golden Jubilee Way, Eastbourne, on 24 December and charged with driving with 52 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml breath. At Hastings Magistrates’ Court on 4 February, he was disqualified from driving for 16 months. He was also fined £120, and ordered to pay £85 costs a £48 victim surcharge.
  
  
• Alexanddru Raileano, 38, a chef, of Goldsmith Close, Eastbourne, was arrested in Hammonds Drive, Eastbourne, on 25 December, and charged with failing to provide a specimen of breath or blood for analysis. At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 5 February, he was disqualified from driving for 17 months and sentenced to a 12-month community order, requiring him to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs a £114 victim surcharge.
  
  
• Alouis Marimirofa, 39, a care worker, of Shirley Road, Southampton, was arrested in Nyton Road, Westergate, on 27 December and charged with driving with 113 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml breath. At Worthing Magistrates’ Court on 3 February, he was disqualified from driving for 25 months. He was also fined £200, and ordered to pay £85 costs a £80 victim surcharge.
  
  
• Fraser Scott, 31, unemployed, of New England Road, Brighton, was arrested on the A26 at Lewes on 28 December, and charged with driving with 55 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml breath, failing to comply with a preliminary drug test and failing to comply with a traffic signal. At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 5 February, he was disqualified from driving for 15 months. He was also fined £120, and ordered to pay £85 costs a £48 victim surcharge.
  
  
• Nolan Bird, 50, a builder, of South Cliff, Bexhill, was arrested in Arundel Road, Worthing, on 30 December and charged with driving with 42 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml breath. At Worthing Magistrates’ Court on 3 February, he was sentenced to eight weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 15 months, and disqualified from driving for 36 months. He was also fined £1,153, and ordered to pay £85 costs a £461 victim surcharge.
  
  
• Syril Sedze, 43, a care assistant, of Waterside Drive, Donnington, was arrested in Binderton Lane, West Dean, on 31 December and charged with driving with 65 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml breath. At Worthing Magistrates’ Court on 3 February, he was disqualified from driving for 17 months. He was also fined £120, and ordered to pay £85 costs a £48 victim surcharge.
  
  
• Dzhenan Dzhevat, 41, self-employed, of Chichester Road, Bognor Regis, was arrested in Beatty Road, Bognor Regis, on 1 January and charged with driving with 73 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml breath. At Worthing Magistrates’ Court on 3 February, he was disqualified from driving for 20 months. He was also fined £120, and ordered to pay £85 costs a £48 victim surcharge.

In keeping with previous years, we will continue to publicly identify anyone convicted of drink or drug-driving as part of this campaign to raise awareness of the issue and to act as a deterrent to others from committing the same offence.

The consequences of drink or drug-driving could include:

• Killing or seriously injuring yourself or someone else;
• A minimum 12-month ban;
• An unlimited fine;
• A possible prison sentence;
• A criminal record, which could affect your current and future employment;
• An increase in your car insurance costs;
• Difficulty travelling to countries such as the USA.
