  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Operation Downsway

Our yearly campaign to address community concerns around road and driving related offences that fall into the fatal 5 driving offences.

    Issued 01 June 2026

    Action taken:

•Extra patrols, educational and enforcement activities across the district focused on targeting excess speed and distracted driving continue into the Summer months.

•A number of police and partner deployments across the town in the last few months to tackle ASB driving, including excess speeding, have led to a number of positive stops and vehicle seizures. (Details of which have been added to our Lewes Police Facebook page).

•Future days of action being planned, following recent police led activities to target community concerns around EScooters, previous days of action led to a number of scooters being seized across the district. (Posted to our Lewes Police Facebook page at the time).

    Actioned 01 June 2026

  • Priority:

Scams and frauds, protecting vulnerable and elderly members of your community.

Every year, the British public loses billions of pounds to fraudsters.

It’s very important to keep up to date with the ways fraudsters try to take our money; you may already know some of the tricks they use, but the rise of the internet means new ones are being invented all the time, and huge amounts of money can be taken. Whether it’s dating fraud, banking fraud, identity theft or even people knocking on your door, find out how modern fraud works, what you can do to guard against it and how to report it.

Our Sussex Police website has a library of support and information, as well as useful tips and signs to spot in potential scams and fraud, as well as support for those who may have been a victim.

    Issued 01 June 2026

    Action taken:

•Continued work with partners to raise fraud awareness particularly to those more vulnerable to becoming a victim by either age or other factors.

•Officers also continue delivering scam awareness sessions, helping residents stay informed, recognise the signs of fraud, and protect themselves from becoming victims.

    Actioned 01 June 2026
