Your neighbourhood policing team
Chief inspectors manage large teams of inspectors, sergeants, constables and police staff. They may be the most senior operational response officer or manage assigned specialist policing functions such as investigations. This role carries specific legal powers in line with inspector rank enabling the maintenance of law and order.
Chief inspectors plan, manage and monitor operational policing activity. They effectively and efficiently set the plan for deployment of resources to incidents, including major and/or critical incidents. Chief inspectors manage and mitigate risk effectively in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of officers, staff and the public and to respond effectively to problems, incidents and crime.
The Neighbourhood Inspector has overall responsibility for the entire neighbourhood policing team of Sergeants, Police Constables, PCSOs and police staff.
They are responsible for delivering on neighbourhood policing strategies, directing the deployment of the team and developing relationships with partners and key stakeholders, to enable the neighbourhood policing team to work effectively.
The Neighbourhood Sergeant provides frontline leadership to coordinate neighbourhood team activity, and works with the community, partners and other colleagues to deliver safer neighbourhoods.
This includes directing problem solving and engagement activity, and being responsive to community needs.
PCSOs provide a visible, accessible and approachable uniformed presence in the community, using designated powers where needed, deterring and preventing crime, and tackling antisocial behaviour.
They are problem solvers and work with partners, where needed, to address local issues.

Drug Harm Reduction.
Targeting drug related crime in your town through intelligence, enforcement and partnership work.
Action taken:
• Continued targeted patrols to tackle drug related harm, including high visibility patrols of known areas of drug use and drug dealing including in local parks and car parks, a number of arrests for drug related offences in Trinity Car Park in recent months, patrols continue to identify offending.
• Continued work alongside partners, with referrals made to partner agencies to provide support and prevent further harm from known drug users in the area.
• A number of closure orders secured on properties causing drug related harm in your communities, details published to our Sussex Police news pages and Eastbourne Police Facebook page.

Operation Downsway
Our yearly campaign to address community concerns around road and driving related offences that fall into the fatal 5 driving offences.
Action taken:
• Summer days of action with our Fatal Five Team along Beachy Head Road, results included a number of offences identified and dealt with, including seatbelt offences, drivers using mobile phones, no insurance offences, speeding offences, vehicle defect notices and three vehicle seizures.
• Extra patrols, education and enforcement activity targeting speeding and distracted driving will continue across the district in the coming Autumn/Winter months, supported by a number of upcoming police operations, including Op Spotlight (speeding) and Op Limit (drink and drug driving).
