Local Policing is organised into 3 divisions, each comprising Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) based within district teams. NPTs provide community engagement, foot patrols and assist local and partnership problem-solving. NPTs are led by a District Commander and comprise sergeants, police officers and PCSOs.
These work with youth, licensing and enforcement officers. Also, investigators, specialists, and police staff within divisions and across Sussex Police support NPTs to protect communities and catch criminals.
Anti-social behaviour (ASB) and ASB driving/nuisance bikes
Swiftly responding to incidents of ASB and effectively using policing powers available to intervene - including powers of dispersal where the actions of individuals or groups impact their wider surroundings; which can lead to wider harm, including the misuse of public spaces or buildings, criminal damage or vandalism, for example graffiti or damage to public buildings, including ASB associated with off road bikes, e-scooter and other forms of transport causing concerns to local residents.

•In recent weeks, officers from various local policing teams, including the Fatal Five Unit and your Lewes Neighbourhood Policing Team, have been carrying out proactive patrols along coastal areas following incidents involving off-road bikes and anti-social driving, already two off road bikes have been seized from the roads, following ASB and dangerous driving in an around Newhaven, one being in the Fort Road area.
•Neighbourhood Youth Officers continue to get into schools to engage with youngsters at key stages of devolvement to discuss ASB, low level crime and the effects actions can have on communities, officers also continue to regularly drop into the Newhaven Youth Centre to engage with youngsters.
•Additional patrols of open green spaces and parks in the area, with officers activity engaging with youngsters and encouraging them into local groups or sports events in the town as an alternative to causing ASB in the area.
•Officers also continue to engage with young people to identify those at risk of becoming involved in ASB, providing early support, building positive relationships, and working with partners to divert individuals away from offending behaviour and towards more constructive activities.

Drug related harm.
Responding to reports of drug related harm in your communities, from individuals and properties to help keep your town safe from drug related crime and associated ASB.

•Police led operations, targeting known areas of drug use and drug dealing, as well as ongoing partnership work around known addresses causing drug harm in your area.
•Continued work alongside partners, and local authorities to address community concerns, including partnership work with housing and British Transport Police to target those using the train network to conduct crime.
•Patrols of known areas of drug use, working alongside partners including Lewes District Council to address concerns of discarded drug paraphernalia reported by residents.
•Warrants and drug related arrests made throughout the last few months will be published to Sussex Police website.

Operation Downsway
Our yearly campaign to address community concerns around road and driving related offences that fall into the fatal 5 driving offences.

•Extra patrols, educational and enforcement activities across the district continue into the Summer months, focused on targeting excess speed, distracted driving, as well as mobile phone use.
•A number of police and partner deployments across the town in the last few months to tackle ASB driving, including excess speeding, these have led to a number of positive stops and vehicle seizures, details of which have been added to our Sussex Police website, and posted to our Lewes Police Facebook page - this includes recent seizures of vehicles causing a nuisance in areas of Newhaven.
