“I’m very excited about this new career. I’m Argentinian and I spent 15 years of my life in Spain. I have always wanted to become a police officer because my grandfather was a Police Commissioner and since I was a child, he inspired me by being such a kind and brave person.”
This is just one of the reasons from our newest cohort of recruits about why they wanted to become a police officer and join the force.
Johanna Diaz continued: “From my perspective, being a police officer is not something you switch off at the end of the day, it becomes part of who you are from the very first day and stays with you for the rest of your life.”
She is among 45 new Police Constables and Detectives Constables recently attested at a ceremony to take their oath. They were joined by their family and friends at the event to celebrate the beginning of their policing career.
Bethany Young, another recruit, said: “It has always been a dream of mine to work for the police from a very young age, specifically to become a detective. I wholeheartedly believe the police force do so much to help society and I have always wanted to be a part of that.
"I previously worked as a detention custody officer at an immigration centre, where I learnt an incredible amount about people. I think the thing I’m most looking forward to is genuinely making a difference to even just one person's life, helping someone in a time of crisis and just being there to give someone hope and the help they need.”
Sussex Police continue to recruit for police officer and detectives. Whether you're seeking a dynamic frontline position, or a vital supporting role behind the scenes, we provide countless ways to make a difference.
